Our most recent MVP selection was also MVP for April 2023: David Neverman. David serves as our Ready4Life Program Manager, overseeing the program and our health facilitator team.
David, what initially inspired you to get involved with Hope for Miami, and how has that passion evolved?
I was inspired by Tabitha, one of the former program managers, and a few others at Hope for Miami, who attend the same church as my wife and I attend. I saw the quality of their character and genuine love for others and thought, “If Hope for Miami is where they’re at, then that’s the place where I want to be!”
What challenges have you faced during your time with Hope for Miami, and how have they shaped your approach to your work?
When I first started as a contractor with one of the prevention programs in 2020, we were at the beginning of the pandemic. Navigating the uncertainty and constant changes during those years was a daily challenge. I am so thankful for the solidarity and grace my team, fellow Hope for Miami staff, and students displayed. The lessons I learned about adapting on the fly, being compassionate, and holding competing ideas in tension have helped me make more intentional connections with the staff and students we serve.
What’s been the most rewarding experience you’ve had and why?
The most continuously rewarding experience I’ve had while at Hope for Miami has been
developing relationships with my team and coworkers. Witnessing their growth and incredible character as we navigate all kinds of personal and professional challenges makes me grateful to get to work alongside them.
What is a significant lesson learned during your time at HFM?
During my time at Hope for Miami, I have grown to appreciate and value the incredible diversity among the communities here in South Florida. I have never been so clearly reminded that God’s heart is for all people and that I share the incredible privilege of serving as His hands and feet to my coworkers, neighbors, and the world.
