Hope for Miami’s Coalicion Esperanza (Hope Coalition) is a collaborative effort of several sectors based in Miami's Flagami neighborhood dedicated to protecting youth by preventing high risk behaviors.
Recently, we joined with the Miami Police and the DEA (U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration ) for Take Back Day at a local CVS pharmacy. The goal was to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
We were able to collect over 17 pounds of unused or expired prescription drugs from the Flagami neighborhood, keeping them out of the water system or from being misused by others.
